Rehearsal Blog Update 09/12/2014

Dear Intermediate Singers and Families,

Thank you to all family members who attended the orientation meeting this week. We hope that you're just as excited as we are about the incredible 20th anniversary season ahead! Those of you who were new this week, welcome to the rehearsal blog! Please be sure to check last week’s entry as well as this week’s. One more reminder to singers and families that this rehearsal blog will be updated at the end of every week. Please visit the blog each week to find important information on upcoming events and what to practice for homework during the week.

Weekly Homework Expectations
(re-post from first week)

There are three ways in which singers will receive homework:

1. Blog instructions: On this blog will be instructions about how to practice, or videos that singers will need to watch during the week in order to learn music.

2. Practice recordings: Throughout the term singers will receive recordings of me singing the pieces we're learning. I will email these recordings as mp3 files that you can download and play at home/in the car/on your computer or smart phone or other device. Singers, please listen to these recordings several times throughout the week, and term, until your part is memorized. We perform all music from memory!

3. Musicianship workbooks: Both Intermediate A and Intermediate Honor singers will receive around three or four pages of musicianship homework from their “A Young Singer’s Journey” workbook each week. Please note: Homework must be completed before the next rehearsal. A parent/guardian must sign on the “marking page” (at the front of each book) to indicate that their child has completed their homework. Families, please ensure that your singers are using the CD at the back as required by the weekly assignment. At the start of every rehearsal all singers will hand in their books so that last week’s work can be marked. Singers will pick up their marked books at the end of rehearsal to take home. On the “marking page”, the theory marker will indicate whether or not corrections must be made to the previous week’s homework. Please correct all errors in addition to completing the new homework for the week.
